Meet member Joy!

Name: Joy Sandifer
Age: 40
Occupation: WOD Dancer & Mom (Yes, you do like to break in down in the middle of the WOD, you and Jenna should have a dance off!)
Previous workout/exercise history before starting CrossFit? I have always been active at one gym or another. I also was introduced to running by Lindsey Kallos  last Aug and in March ran a 1/2 marathon with her for LLS.  Joined the YMCA when my son Cooper was 3 months old. He is now 6.  Did all classes there. Zumba, Body Sculpt, Spinning… then I met Crossfit.  (You girls rocked that 1/2 and proud of so many of our members that came out to support you girls!)

How did you learn about CrossFit Sting? Max and Lindsey Kallos and the Gilbys (There they go pushing the kool aid again!  What else do they make you do?)
Was it love at first WOD? For me the intro gave me a sense of,  ” WOW this is gonna change me “.  Doing things I have never done in any workout.  I think it was love?
Favorite WOD or movements? …HOPE – I needed to go back to the gym even though I did my regular WOD that morning. STRESS hit me and I needed a release. Instead of opening a bottle of something fun I went back to the box for 4:30 stress relief.  Jess took one look at me and coached me through THE HOPE WOD. It is my favorite because it was hard and Jess pushed me to do more than I thought I could do. Stress relieved.  (Who needs meditation or a therapist when you have CrossFit!)
Least favorite WOD or Movements?  BURPEES – Hang Cleans kill my wrist –  running carrying anything like a sandbag or a wallball, OY.
Favorite CrossFit Sting moment?  Describe your experience here. After a Hero WOD on Memorial Day,  going to the box on a Saturday I feel you get extra boogie bonus points but on a day when you are thinking of all of those who fight for our country…super bonus.  Running 100 pull ups 100 squats 100 push ups OH and running to end it all. PHEW super hard and sweaty. I had a POD of my girls and we rocked it. AFTER everyone brought healthy food and there was a huge amount of it.  I LOVE FOOD…I think I ate 30 of Sheila’s healthy chilli lime chicken wings and scared 1/2 the people trying to get to the food table.  Hard work and hanging out after was awesome. 1/2 the people I had not even met yet. A new family of friends. Our Box is awesome.  (That was a GREAT day for all the members and that is what Saturdays are all about, teamwork and meeting people that you don’t get to se during the week.)
Why do you CrossFit? Lindsey makes me do it!  I feel strong and like to challenge my body. Never thought I would be a runner and I ran a 1/2 marathon 7 months after I started running.  Starting Crossfit has been amazing.  It is a home away from home. I love the coaches and all the people at our box.  I am now going up in weight by 5-10 lbs in WODS. After starting in May – I tried to rope climb – NO GO –  I climbed the rope for the first time in July. Proof is in the strength it takes to get your butt up there. I see serious results and it makes me happy.  It is a healthy place to be. Not only a better workout but learning to eat healthier as well.
Tell us something new about you that we don’t already know?  I sang onstage with John Denver.  I know this makes me seem like I am 70 but…. you’re welcome.  (Your Hootie and the Blowfish story is pretty good.  Feel free to ask Joy about that next time you see her in the box.)

You are AWSOME ….. And a badass!!! I love the relationship you had with the wings…. Lol I wish we got to wod more frequently !!!!
